Germany: BORG Automotive Group Publishes 2025 ESG Report Detailing Circular Economy Metrics

As the European automotive sector navigates shifting regulatory frameworks, sustainability benchmarking has become central to corporate strategy. BORG Automotive Group has released its 2025 ESG Report, documenting technical performance alongside the implementation of its Refine4Future operational plan.

The group recorded a 56% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions against its 2020 baseline, meeting its 2030 reduction target ahead of schedule. This reduction was sustained by an energy transition strategy, with renewable energy, driven by solar installations and long-term supply agreements, now comprising 44% of total energy consumption.

Financially, the company’s circular business model remains its primary commercial driver, with remanufacturing activities generating 79% of total revenue. Lifecycle assessments indicate that these remanufacturing operations accounted for 45,112 tonnes of avoided co2 emissions compared to the production of new components. Governance changes included joining the Forum for Automotive Aftermarket Sustainability (FAAS) and maintaining an EcoVadis Bronze Medal rating.

Looking ahead to 2026, market conditions are expected to remain volatile, characterised by softer demand and price pressure. However, broader trends offer alternative opportunities. An ageing European vehicle parc and a consumer preference for repair over replacement are stabilising demand for remanufactured units. To address powertrain diversification, the business is expanding its mechatronics capabilities, including a new site focused on the reverse engineering of automotive software. Backed by parent company Schouw & Co., the group aims to combine this technical expansion with established industrial infrastructure.
