febi Technical Advice Targets DPF Regeneration Issues Across Ford Diesel Engines

Bilstein has issued technical guidance addressing DPF regeneration failure across Ford Focus, Mondeo, C-Max, and S-Max models fitted with 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, and 2.2-litre diesel engines.

Affected vehicles may display reduced engine performance, an illuminated engine malfunction lamp, and a blocked DPF. Scans often reveal fault codes P244C (exhaust temperature too low for DPF regeneration) or P26A1 (exhaust aftertreatment glow plug open circuit).

The fault is typically caused by a physically blocked DPF injector nozzle, a blown fuse due to an internal short circuit from glow plug overheating, or fuel supply pump failure.

To diagnose and rectify the issue, febi recommends the following checks:

  • Injector testing: Connect a hand-held vacuum pump to the fuel supply line. If it holds a vacuum, the injector nozzle is blocked and requires replacement using febi part 109034
  • Electrical testing: If the injector heater or pump fuse has blown, measure glow plug resistance. Nominal resistance is 1.1 Ohms; readings under 0.8 Ohms or over 1.3 Ohms signify a faulty glow plug within the injector unit
  • Fuel pump and supply lines: If injector values meet specification, inspect fuel supply lines for blockages and check pump operation and wiring

Once faulty components have been replaced, technicians must perform a DPF service regeneration in a well-ventilated area.
