Austria: The £6MILLION car crash: ‘Most expensive pile-up of the year’ sees two Ferraris, a McLaren and a Bentley slam into each other on Austrian mountain road

A car smash involving two Ferraris, a McLaren and a Bentley with a combined value of £6million has been branded the most expensive crash of the year.

The incident took place in November on a mountain road near Pfunds, in Austria’s Tyrol State, where a £447,000 Ferrari 812 Superfast collided with a £4million LaFerrari.

According to reports, the Ferrari Superfast had been driving behind the LaFerrari before a collision took place on a tight hairpin bend on the country road at around 2.40pm.

That crash triggered a chain reaction, with a £1.4million McLaren Elva ramming into the two cars followed by a £192,000 Bentley Continental GTC at the rear crashing into the lineup, forcing the luxury sports cars into the rock face escalating the chaos.

Police reportedly said none of the drivers were injured in the collision.

Authorities have begun an investigation as to whether the drivers, aged between 40 and 52, and reportedly from the canton of Graubuenden, Switzerland, maintained adequate safety distances.

A picture of the crash, capturing all four vehicles wedged against the rock face, surfaced on social media, sparking a flurry of user comments.

One person wrote: ‘Photographic evidence that money can’t buy good sense!’

Another quipped: ‘This accident will cost more in repairs than I will make in my entire life. Absolutely insane.’

And a third joked: ‘You can’t park there.’

It comes just a month after a female driver lost control of a Bentley Azure convertible and smashed it into other luxury vehicles in a £1million car pile up.

Footage of the expensive smash showed a loud smash can be heard as tourists and locals alike flinch.

The camera then pans to a multi-car pile up with a bright blue Bentley Azure, which is worth as much as £150,000, at the centre.

The vehicle had a huge scrape along the driver’s side where the car appeared to have crashed into the boot of a white saloon as passengers inside that vehicle scrambled to get out.

The front bumper of the Azure was also left damaged as it bumped into what appeared to be a stationary Ferrari 599, which can cost over £700,000, damaging it’s front bumper.
