France: Drivers can compare local contrôle technique fees at new official French website

A new comparison site allowing drivers to see the price for mandatory vehicle tests at different garages in their area has been created by the French government.

The site includes an interactive map, as well as the option to type in an address to find garages offering a contrôle technique (CT, France’s mandatory roadworthiness tests) in a specific area.

Additional filters, allow you to search a variety of categories including type of car and engine (electric, diesel, petrol, etc).

You can also search for a specific garage using the outlet’s SIRET registration number.

Once you have located a centre, you can find contact details as well as a catalogue of prices for various services including CT tests, allowing you to compare prices before booking an appointment.

The website can be found here.

Note that the site only currently allows people to check the price for CT tests for four-wheeled vehicles, and not for motorcycles.

Motorcyclists have been required to obtain a CT for their bikes since April 2024, although the deadline for having a test depends on the age of the bike.

The government also asks drivers who are charged extortionate prices to report the garage responsible, using the official Signal Conso complaints website.
