HELLA Tech World Issues Technical Updates and Diagnostics Service Guidance

HELLA has released its latest technical update via HELLA Tech World, providing workshop technicians with diagnostic guidance and model-specific troubleshooting tips.

The technical bulletin outlines specific fault resolutions across several vehicle platforms:

  • Mazda 2: Models with automatic running lights failing to switch on low beams may have a defective ambient light sensor integrated into the rain sensor module. Technicians should check manual switch functions, wiring, and power supply before replacement.
  • Audi Q5: An “SCR system fault – no engine start in XXX km” message can appear without a stored fault code in the engine control unit, as the front NOx sensor is monitored exclusively via the exhaust gas aftertreatment control unit.
  • Mini F56: Temporary or permanent failure of the signal horn can occur, where operation is restricted to one side or fails across the steering wheel push buttons.
  • BMW 116i (F20): Vehicles may judder at full load or experience brief power transmission loss from fourth gear onwards without activating the engine malfunction indicator light or storing fault codes.

The update also covers driver assistance systems, providing an alphabetical overview of common platforms, and outlines diagnostics for identifying and resolving faults in horns and fanfares.

Additionally, HELLA Gutmann updates highlight new capabilities in advanced battery diagnostics. Select diagnostic systems can now read the State of Health (SoH) of high-voltage electric vehicle traction batteries. This functionality enables workshops to provide transparent battery reports to EV owners, addressing a growing service opportunity as EV numbers increase.

Workshops can access the manufacturer’s dedicated video page for compiled diagnostic and repair video resources covering everyday and complex workshop tasks.
