Europe: BMW Group is expanding collection of image data from BMW customer vehicles in Europe

The new BMW iX3 provides drivers with increased safety and a high degree of comfort thanks to the BMW Group’s new generation of active safety and driver-assistance systems. Additionally, these technologies safeguard bicycles, pedestrians, and other road users.

Image data from real-world traffic scenarios from customer vehicles can offer substantial added value for the ongoing development and enhancement of driver-assistance systems, in addition to comprehensive virtual testing using simulations and physical validation with the fleet of BMW development vehicles.

Since April 2026, the BMW Group has been able to gather picture data from vehicles of the latest model generation in EU member states. These vehicles are outfitted with the sensor technology and data processing architecture required for situational acquisition of environmental video data. In addition to later new models and model upgrades, these include the new BMW iX3 and i3, X5, and 7 Series. Customers’ consent is required for the usage of this image data, and all data protection laws are followed.
