An auto repair shop owner in the town of Pallini east of Athens has been arrested for breaches of environmental regulations including discarding dangerous engine oils in the soil, police said.
The 36-year-old male was arrested after significant amounts of solid waste was discovered during a raid on the property on Monday.
A statement said lubricating oils used in vehicles had soaked into the ground, causing “extensive pollution,” while the suspect allegedly had also been pumping liquid waste onto the pavement outside his shop.
This incident as highlighted an ongoing concern in Greece of environmental law breaches in Greece and the huge importance of compliance with regulations.
