“This gentleman has the full range of a crook.” The prosecutor’s representative is rather blunt when discussing the profile of Thierry A., a specialist in the restoration of historic vehicles and the preparation of racing cars. Based in Alès (Occitanie), he is accused of fraud and breach of trust, as reported by Midi Libre .
Commissioned to maintain a Funyo racing car, Thierry A. used numerous stratagems to set up his scam. “I entrusted him with my car for maintenance, even during races. He gave me a quote of €3,700, which I agreed to, but when he offered me an engine upgrade, I said no,” confided the owner of the racing car.
The latter, who did not want to pay the bill, before being forced to do so by the courts, then wanted to recover his victory. “He refused to give it back to me. He always made excuses. Until the day I found my car on an ad on Leboncoin” confides the man, originally from Clermont-Ferrand.
Absent during his judgment, Thierry A. was sentenced to eight months in prison and a €4,500 fine. The driver, as well as the man who thought he had bought the vehicle on the peer-to-peer sales platform, will receive nearly €20,000 for the damages, especially since the “chassis is twisted” and “the engine is damaged” on the racing vehicle.
