More defects without inspection?

The Gifhorn Motor Vehicle Guild shares the opinion of its central association: “It’s not how often a vehicle is presented for its main inspection that matters, but how carefully it is conducted,” says guild spokesperson Michael Neuburger. In Germany, in particular, the MOT is at a level unmatched anywhere else in Europe. Modern assistance systems, electromobility, and even the diagnostics of the data storage devices of current vehicles have already been included in the inspection process. Emissions monitoring for all combustion-engine vehicles became a fundamental part of regulatory monitoring in 2018.

“Incidentally, practice shows no increased frequency of errors regarding safety-related defects in older vehicles. Through regular inspections at qualified automotive workshops, all safety-relevant systems are checked and, if necessary, repaired,” say the guild’s experts. Unfortunately, these facts are completely ignored in Brussels, Neuburger is certain.

Individual mobility is an important foundation of our economic solidity and should not be made even more expensive by official regulations, Neuburger concluded.
